PADI Medic First Aid

The Medic First Aid course offered by PADI is a basic training course which covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency care in a cohesive manner. It is a medically based course designed to provide the patient with a continuity of care as that patient is passed from the first person on the scene (using the techniques of Medic First Aid) to the paramedics, and finally on to the physicians in the emergency room. The skills of patient care necessary to support life of an ill or injured person are covered in seven modules in which practical application and hands-on practice are emphasized. Students learn these skills in the same sequence they would use in caring for a patient.

Medic First Aid covers primary care (CPR inclusive), secondary care and treatments following national consensus guidelines (Emergency Cardiac Care Subcommittee, American Heart Association, Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care, JAMA, 1992; 268 and Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured, Fifth Edition American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons).

The Medic First Aid course may be used to meet the PADI Advanced Plus and Rescue Diver requirements for first aid and CPR training, and to meet CPR/first aid prerequisites for any PADI leadership level course. The PADI Medic First Aid course is recognized by the US Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration as well as the US Coast Guard.

The Medic First Aid Program consists of 8 hours of training. During this training, students will view video presentations, listen to instructor elaboration and participate in practical training exercises. Olympus Dive Center's fees for this course include: Student training package, Barrier Kit, Certification registration envelope, Plastic certification card, Wall certificate and all instructional fees. Medic First Aid training is open to any person seeking first aid training.
